Zakopane is the "Winter capital of Poland" caressing the foothills of the Tatra Mountains in the Malopolska Province. Being the town of highest elevation in Poland, it is a focal point for skiing and mountaineering. Zakopane was also home to 19th century Polish composer and pianist, Karol Szymanowski.
