Closely associated with the Prussian army, this life size military helmet is a strikingly fantastic replica of a Prussian Cuirassier Spiked Helmet, also know as a Pickelhaube German Helmet. Introduced in 1842 by Frederick William IV to be utilize by the majority of the Prussian infantry, the employment of the Pickelhaube spread rapidly to other German principalities. The helmet was employed during the 19th and 20th centuries and worn mainly by the cuirassiers.Featured on the front center of the helmet is a large brass plate designed in the shape of a spread-winged eagle, the emblem used by Prussia. Engraved on the eagle is the motto: "Mitt Gott Fur Koenig und Vaterland" ("With God for King and Fatherland"). Attached to the sides of the helmet behind the chinstrap mount on either side are two round colored cockades, which were used to denote the nationality of the German Imperial military. The right side cockade for the German empire (red-white-black) and the other side cockade for the individual German provinces and kingdoms. On this helmet the second cockade is for Prussia (black-white-black). The leather buckle chinstrap is lined in brass scales. Due to the excessive curved neck guard, these helmets were sometimes referred to as "lobster tail" helmets by the allied forces. Made in the popular spiked style, exquisite detail and craftsmanship went into the creation of this replica helmet. - Hand constructed with 20 gauge mildsteel with inside lining
