American Betrayal: Franklin Roosevelt Casts Poland into Communist Captivity

The Poles were the first to fight the evil Nazi Germany and the coarse and brutal Russian in World War II. They never ceased to combat the enemy "for your freedom and ours." Polish soldiers fell gallantly on many battlefields, dedicating their hearts ot Poland and their souls to the lands where they had fought.

Poland became a pawn in the international politics of the United States, Great Britain, and Russia. The American President carried on a personal and naive policy of appeasing Russia, and his military leaders focused on winning the war but losing the peace. President Roosevelt failed to appease Josef Stalin just as Neville Chamberlin failed to appease Adolf Hitler. President Roosevelt's disastrous foreign policy cast Poland into Communist captivity. Victory for the Allies turned out to be defeat for Poland, and at the Victory Parade in London Polish forces were not allowed to participate, 8 June 1946.

Despite numerous obstacles and discouragement, the Polish determination to gain freedom never faltered. The first American ambassador to the Polish Provisional Government in 1945, Arthur Bliss Lane, hailed "the unconquerable spirit of Poles in adversity."

FRANCIS CASIMIR KAJENCKI was graduated from the U.S. Military Academy & commissioned second lieutenant in January 1943. He served in the Pacific Theater in World War II, followed by staff & command assignments over a span of thirty years. He retired as Colonel & Assistant Chief of Information, Department of the Army, in 1973. Kajencki earned three Masters degrees: from the University of Southern California in Mechanical Engineering, 1949; University of Wisconsin-Madison in Journalism, 1967; George Mason University in History, 1976. Upon retiring from the army, he took up historical research & writing that led to six published books on American history. The author was born in Erie, Pennsylvania, in 1918. A widower with four adult children, he resided in El Paso Texas. He passed away on July 18, 2008 at age 90.
