Considered to be the best post-war Polish film, a tragedy about Warsaw ghetto involving an array of people of different ethnic and social classes who are all neighbors trying to survive in an everchanging period. The film climaxes with the Ghetto Uprising of 1943, when the Jews, with the help of the Polish Underground, take up arms against the Germans.
