The 17th century Hussarian Armor was a symbol of the Polish Sarmatiam spirit and utilized the best characteristics of Western and Oriental armors. Fish scale armors were first utilized by Jan III Sobieski's army in the battle of Vienna in 1683. This full sized replica Hussarian Fish Scale Suit of Armor with Helmet (zbroja karacenowa style), shoulders and forehands protection is made of hundreds of small steel fish scales individually attached by brass knobs into a single thick piece of leather. The leather is covered by rich velvet of a royal red color. The arm protectors are made of leather and velvet and are beautified by brass ornamental pieces. The helmet is equipped with adjustable nose protector, ear shield, and movable fish tail neck guard and the back plate is one solid and heavy piece. Leather straps attach all of the individual pieces to each other. The suit of armor comes with a special custom designed stand (not shown in image) that presents all pieces of this unique armor at its best.

Between the 16th and 18th centuries, the charging Polish Hussars (Husaria), also known as the Winged Horsemen, were a primary part of the Polish Army; first developed as a formation of light cavalry, then later transformed into heavy cavalry. They have been described as 'one of the most spectacular soldiers in the world'. Up until the 18th century, the Polish Hussars were notoriously the elite unit of the Commonwealth.
