Fashioned in Poland, every glass ornament is mouth-blown, then lined with liquid produce of sterling silver rendering the finished piece with exceptional brilliance, and finally meticulously hand-painted. The Lighthouse Blown-Glass Ball Ornament Series are intricate renditions of American Scenery with the design concept to 'capture and celebrate moments in time' within these handmade treasures. This ball ornament characterizes the historic New London Ledge Light located on the Thames River near New London, Connecticut. The lighthouse was originally named the Southwest Ledge Light, however in 1910 the name was changed to avoid confusion with another New Haven lighthouse. The granite and brick structure, constructed in 1909, encompasses a small cylindrical tower on top of a three story dwelling all resting on a concrete pier. Still in operation the lighthouse can be visited by boating tours.
