750 years have passed since granting Stary Sącz town privileges based on Magdeburg Rights. The anniversary is an opportunity to present the exceptional beauty of one of Poland’s oldest town’s, whose history dates back to the Middle Ages. Stary Sącz abounds in precious souvenirs of the past, and is at this time a modern, constantly developing town. It is also an example of dynamic management and efficient local government. The tower of St. Elisabeth of Hungary parish church and the ancient Poor Clares monastery buildings can be seen from far away. The monastery attracts throngs of pilgrims coming to visit St. Kinga’s temple. At the local meadow, the papal altar at which His Holiness John Paul II canonised the Blessed Kinga in 1999 has been preserved. The town centre is adorned by the recently refurbished charming main square surrounded by low town-houses. In the evenings, the town allures the amateurs of walks with the cosy lighting provided by the newly installed lampposts and the multicoloured fountain. In the summer, Stary Sącz is replete with greenery. Within the town limits and in the surroundings, precious natural monuments, forests and groupings of old trees are to be found.
